Probably the most popular system in North America due to ease of use and installation. A good choice for your security system.

A favorite among home owners for their great looking keypads. If you’re going to have something on your wall, why not have something that looks great. Paradox is not as popular among installers due to it being more difficult to program, but we love this system. The price point on their keypads is lower than other manufacturer’s decorative keypads.

Tips to a Better Security System

[vc_column_text]There are only 2 major brands of alarm systems, DSC and Honeywell. There are other brands that are well known such as Paradox and GE and a few others but DSC and Honeywell are the main products used by 9 out of 10 alarm companies. So this should tell you that the installation makes all the difference. We are using the exact same parts but some people have a lot of false alarms and some have hardly any. Some people end up not using their alarms due to false alarms or other issues that have nothing to do with the equipment. On an average home the parts to labour ratio should be about 50/50, that means you are paying just as much for the install as you are for the parts, so while you’re trying to get the best system, it’s just as important if not more so to make sure you get the best installation.

Do not buy from a company that uses proprietary equipment. You lose some freedom, if you are ever dissatisfied with their service you will be forced to buy a new system. Also the new equipment may not be the same size as the old, so damage may have to be repaired. Luckily there are only about 2-3 companies in BC that do this.

Make sure the company solders all their wire connections, this means all window and door sensors! This is a must to avoid future false alarms and it only takes an extra 10 seconds per contact. Having this repaired after the fact can cost you hundreds in labor not to mention false alarm fines. At least 80% of companies do not solder! This is very easy for you to catch, many other short cuts aren’t so easy for the regular homeowner to detect.

Ask how much labor the company is including in their quote. This is a major factor to get what you paid for. Make sure you’re comparing apples to apples. There is no possible way to get a job done in half the time and keep the quality at an acceptable level. The amount of labour is not usually shown so you must ask for this information.

The security license is mandatory, no work can be performed without it. If they don’t have the trades qualifications card it means they have not yet completed the provincial exam. They are allowed to work as long as they are supervised by a qualified technician.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Don’t allow your technician to group motion sensors together on to one zone. If it’s done then this tech is not good at all. The reason is all about false alarms. If nothing ever goes wrong or you never use your system then any alarm from any company is great. If you rely on your system to protect you then get it done properly. Motion sensors are the number one cause of false alarms, if you group them together there is no way to tell which one caused the alarm. The only way to ensure the problem goes away is to replace all the sensors, which is going to hurt your pocketbook. It is okay to group doors and windows together as a false alarm from them can be diagnosed using a meter. Still you want to keep the grouping to about 4 openings maximum.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Best of luck with your system and we hope this has helped you make a better decision.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1442206922857{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;background-color: #414141 !important;}”][vc_column column_effect=”bottommove” time=”1.5″ distance=”100″][button btnlink=”http://guardiansecuritysystems.ca/contact/” btntext=”Let’s work together”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
